Overview

As part of a four-person engineering team, I led the conceptual and detailed design of a three-wheeled, LE1-compliant urban transport vehicle — tailored for budget-conscious city residents, with a focus on university students. The design challenge was to create a compact, single-occupant vehicle that balances cost-efficiency, manufacturability, and safe operation in dense urban environments.

Our final design centred around four key subsystems: chassis and structure, steering and handling, drivetrain, and braking. I acted as both team lead and braking system designer, coordinating our group’s workflow while developing the vehicle’s braking layout and component selection. This involved force calculations, safety analysis, material selection, and integration with the overall frame design. I also oversaw the consolidation of subsystems into a complete CAD assembly, ensuring that all elements functioned together seamlessly.

The project required detailed technical documentation, including engineering calculations, iterative design development, and the creation of full-scale technical drawings. It provided a valuable opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to a real-world mobility challenge — blending teamwork, system thinking, and hands-on engineering to deliver a practical, affordable, and efficient transport solution.
