Concrete Ghosts is a night photography series exploring the haunting stillness of an abandoned earthquake-damaged building in central Christchurch. The project documents the eerie beauty and silent resilience of a forgotten space — a structure frozen in time, yet filled with texture, memory, and presence.
Using long exposures and natural shadows, I aimed to reveal the emotional weight of the space: fractured concrete, exposed steel, graffiti layers, and empty frames that once held everyday life. By including people within some of the shots, we added contrast between movement and decay — a subtle reminder of life continuing around the ruins.
This project blends architectural storytelling with personal narrative, exploring the tension between destruction and reflection. It challenged my technical skills in low-light photography, while allowing me to express something more emotional — how we, as people, move through the remnants of a shaken city.
