Light Through the Trees is a modern wall-mounted lighting piece designed to explore the emotional and spatial impact of light, shadow, and material contrast. Inspired by the way natural light filters through tree canopies, the piece was developed to cast soft, organic shadows across interior spaces, creating a sense of calm and warmth within a modern, industrial frame.
Constructed using a blend of hardwood, steel, and acrylic, the design balances raw materials with precision fabrication. The structure features layered cutouts that diffuse light in controlled, tree-like patterns — transforming any blank wall into a sculptural, ambient centrepiece. This project challenged conventional lighting design by prioritising the atmosphere it creates rather than the fixture itself.
Completed in 2022, I used wood cutting, shaping and finishing techniques along with steel cutting and welding with integrated LED systems to bring the piece to life. It served not only as a functional lighting prototype but also as an investigation into how light can be used as a design material in itself — shaping emotion, experience, and space.
